Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence Applications at the UIB (LAIA@UIB)
The Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence Applications at the UIB LAIA@UIB)[1] has as its main purpose to establish a space for support and collaboration to carry out various joint actions in research, training, dissemination, and transfer in the field of applied artificial intelligence. It aims to promote interdisciplinary and cross-cutting collaboration among the groups involved in the development of AI-based applications, including society, institutions, and businesses.
The importance of research, training, dissemination, and the transfer of AI is underlined by its economic and social potential, which could add around 14 trillion euros to the global economy by 2030 and double the rates of economic growth by 2035. Additionally, AI can provide a wide range of opportunities for businesses, enabling a better understanding of their processes, the needs of their customers and partners, and the overall business environment. Its interdisciplinary nature and its ability to accelerate global socio-economic solutions can contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda[2].
For these reasons, the objectives of LAIA@UIB are:
- Collaborate and transfer research results related to applied artificial intelligence.
- Create an interdisciplinary support space in the field of applied artificial intelligence.
- Provide training programs in applied artificial intelligence for companies, institutions, and entities.
